The lump in my throat, feeling kind of homesick, photo of the day

As a school kid we went on a field trip to the Bosque del Apache and I also went a couple times with my folks. It is one of the most visceral feelings I’ve ever known to sit in among the vast amounts birds at either sunrise or sunset and hear them all calling, honking, tweeting, whatevering at each other. It is a feeling, truly, that nature is much, much greater than you.
And I miss it.

Wow.
I went to the sandhill crane festival last year, and I must say if it hadn’t been brutally cold, it might have been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. It was incredibly beautiful.

I wrote about the starlings flying over in the morning recently – The picture is beautiful.
Where I lived in the UK, Canada geese used to fly over regularly. Rarely we have geese flying over here, but the first time I heard them I rushed out of the house to see them, feeling so homesick.
